The Awakening…

Well, been a long time coming but I finally decided to quit for the second time and cancelled my account. My Last day is today as my account goes off  Feb 19th, 2008 @ 4:20 AM PST.

When I went in to cancel my account I checked through the history and my first day playing WOW was 11/23/2004… The first day it started. So except for a 4 month break in 2006 I have been playing almost three and a half years. That is crazy.

I figure a good way to help break the addiction is to figure out how many total hours I spent on ALL of my toons, and then keep a running total of hours as I “pay back” those hours by doing something a little more productive.  So, I will be keeping track of things and posting them up here. Who knows, maybe this will help other WOW addicts trying to get out.

  1. Well, have a look at allplayed….

Oh well, as long as you have not yet managed to break the 1k days limit, you are still fine :D

  2. Dang man, wish I would have known about that addon before i added up all my time manually. lol. Yeah, i am not close to 1k days played, but I am bad enough. I post the exact hours in a new post today.

  3. Out of curiosity, did you delete your toons or just cancel the account? Since you’ve attempted to quit in the past, you’re aware that Blizzard retains your characters indefinitely so that the temptation to rejoin is always there.

I meant to delete my toons but didn’t. I did, however, trash all of my level 70 gear, items, and gold…including vendoring the entire primal mooncloth, frozen shadowweave, and Whitemend priest sets along with about 5 Kara epics.

It definitely helps reduce the craving when you realize that joining would mean you’d have to play a naked, broke dwarf priest sitting in Ironforge.

  4. no I didnt delete my chars or anything, i just turned off my account. I was thinking I would craigslist it to try and get some cash at least out of the 3k hrs i put in. lol. But then I said why give someone else an addiction, so the toons will just sit there forever. My friends keep saying I will be back for the 80 expansion but I say they will be sick of WOW by then. lol

  5. I also considered selling mine too but thought it might be too much of a pain so didn’t bother.

I’d hope that people start to become sick of the game by the expansion but don’t forget that the game launched in 2004 and now in 2008 they hit 10 million subscribers…and growing. Pretty astounding numbers.

    How are you holding up?

  6. Still going good. Played warcraft 3 again last night for about an hour and worked on my den like 4hrs. lol
